‘Crooked’ cockles GNR’s coastal police

Nearly two tons of illegally captured cockles were confiscated by GNR’s coastal police force in Faro on Monday, September 9.

During a routine patrol, officers detected a boat capturing the cockles at night “outside of the legal schedule”. Two men were identified and are now facing fines of up to €50,000 for lack of a fishing license and €25,000 for not respecting the schedule.

The cockles were still alive and were returned to the sea.
