‘Festas do Pescador’ bring delicious seafood and live music to Albufeira

Delicious seafood, mouthwatering sweets and an eclectic music programme promise to make this year’s ‘Festas do Pescador’ (Fishermen’s Festivities) in Albufeira an event not to be missed.

It will take place between Friday and Sunday (September 6-8) at Praça dos Pescadores and will celebrate the history of Albufeira which was once a thriving fishing town before becoming the tourist hotspot that it is today.

With local associations manning around 20 stalls, there will be no shortage of delicious food with visitors able to taste traditional dishes such as ‘carapaus alimados’ (a typical Algarvian horse mackerel dish), cuttlefish with ink, and xerém (a kind of corn porridge) with ‘conquilhas’, a popular type of clam in the Algarve.

For dessert, there will be regional delicacies like the Dom Rodrigo (egg threads with cinnamon) and cakes made out of carob, almond and fig, all regional products.

And to make sure people always have music to dance along to, there will be several musical performances taking place.

Legendary Portuguese comedian Herman José will be bringing his ‘Herman José & Big Band’ show to Albufeira on Friday, while on Saturday entertainment will be provided by several local folk music groups.

On the last day, José Praia & Aquaviva will take the stage and warm up the crowd for a performance by Portuguese singer Ana Malhoa.

The event will take place on all three days between 6pm and 1am. Admission is free.
