Seafood takes centre stage in Faro and Olhão
Fresh seafood from Ria Formosa will be the star of two major gastronomic events taking place in the next few weeks in the Algarve.
The first is described by many as the “biggest gastronomic event” in Faro and is returning this year to delight thousands of people with the “best seafood that the region has to offer.”
The event, known in Portuguese as the ‘Festa da Ria Formosa’, is taking place at the main Largo de São Francisco square until Sunday, August 4.
Apart from the mouthwatering food, there is also a variety of entertainment to enjoy with local musicians taking the stage every night.
Admission is free. The event organised by the Vivmar association and Faro council starts every day at 7pm and ends at 1am.
A few weeks later, it will be Olhão paying tribute to Formosa’s ‘fruits of the sea’. The town will host its hugely popular ‘Festival do Marisco’ between August 9 and 14, a six-day seafood extravaganza which also brings top music acts to the Algarve.
Ticket prices vary depending on the day, with a six-day pass available for €42. They can be purchased online at ticketline.pt or at the usual outlets such as Worten and Fnac.
