Monchique hosts ‘Feira do Presunto’

If you like cured meat and all things traditional about the Algarve, then Monchique’s Feira do Presunto is the place to be on the weekend of July 20-21.

The fair is one of the most popular annual events in Monchique and is returning for the 22nd year, again with dozens of stalls selling all types of “presunto”, Portugal’s famous dry-cured ham, considered by many as even more delicious in the hillside town.

The ‘Feira do Presunto’ will be held at Parque de São Sebastião and there will also be handicraft and other culinary delights from the region such as bread and sweets, and, for the brave only, Monchique’s Medronho firewater.

Live music is also an important part of the fair, with the programme for this year including two Portuguese brother duos – Anjos on Saturday and Calema on Sunday. Both of their performances are scheduled for 10pm.

The fair is free to attend and runs from 5pm to 1am.
