Aljustrel mining accident: 4th incident this year leaves worker in serious condition
Aljustrel mine saw yet another work-related accident this week, the fourth serious incident this year.
Against the backdrop of unions highlighting the mine’s poor safety record, a worker involved in plant maintenance was “electrocuted”.
Say reports, the victim – described as aged 51 but so far unnamed – works for a company that provides services within the mining complex.
He was transported by helicopter to a Lisbon hospital last (Monday) night.
The incident was called into emergency response authorities early evening (some papers say 6.30pm, others 7.30pm)..
Media sources recall that there have already been two fatalities at the mine this year (click here and here), and various serious injuries, including ‘extensive burns’ suffered by a 32-year-old worker in an explosion within the mine less than a month ago.
