Carvoeiro winemaker strikes grand gold

The 2019 edition of Concours Mondial de Bruxelles took place in Aigle, Canton of Vaud, Switzerland, between May 2 and 5 and Portugal brought back hundreds of silver and gold medals and a staggering 11 grand gold medals in the international competition, with only 91 worldwide.

One of 11 from Portugal to be awarded the Grand Gold Medal in this year’s event was Algarve wine Edd’s Tinto Reserva 2015, grown on a private estate between Carvoeiro and Lagoa.

Edd’s vineyard lies on a green and hilly site of 7 hectares, with natural pine, olive and almond trees encompassing the property, and has been producing wine since 2012.

This is not a wine for the faint hearted; it’s big and bold, packed with notes of black and blueberries, oak, spices and notes of the native herb oregano with a whopping 14.5% alcohol content. Currently, you can buy the wine directly from the producer for around €15 a bottle.
