Faro campsite renovations to begin in October
Renovation work at Faro’s campsite is set to begin in October, with the plan being to have it open to everyone by 2020.
So says local mayor Rogério Bacalhau, who assures the council has all the necessary licences to move forward.
The only reason the renovations have not started yet is due to a long-standing deal which has left it in the hands of a group of over 100 campers.
But the deal ends in September and, as soon as it does, the company that won the tender to carry out the renovations will move in and ‘get to work’.
The park will boast 200 tent spaces, 84 of them for large tents, as well as 24 spaces for motorhomes. This is a move that is expected to help bolster the local economy during winter.
Bacalhau has always been adamant that the campsite will be “extremely important” for the local economy and for the development of Praia de Faro “in terms of nautical and tourism activities”.
Meantime, he also revealed that the council has €3.5 million set aside for the construction of a new bridge to Praia de Faro but that the project is still being worked on. As soon as it is completed, a tender for the works will be launched, he says.
