Memorial exhibition and raffle for west Algarve painter Jon G
Following the death last month of west Algarve painter John Greenslade, friends have organised a special exhibition of his work to take place after the funeral which will be held at 11am on June 19, at the church in Barão de S. Miguel (Vila do Bispo).
The show will be open in the nearby Cultural Centre from 1pm for people to “see this great artist’s later work and participate in the celebration of a good friend with music, food and drinks in the midst of his creative genius – his paintings”, explains sculptor and organiser of the event Sören Ernst.
There will then be a raffle and the opportunity to take home one of a hand-selected choice of John’s works.
All proceedings from the raffle will go into a fund set up to “help further and develop local talent in children who’d like to follow in John’s footsteps, and learn more about the art of painting”, Sören adds.
John, or Jon G. as he signed his later work, is best remembered for his stunning seascapes and street scenes, incorporating elements of the subject he was depicting into the actual painting.
Born in 1945, John’s paintings hang in many private collections and were on show all over Europe during his lifetime.
After the show at Barão de S. Miguel Cultural Centre, the paintings will go on to be exhibited in the Cultural Centre in Almádena over June 29/30.
