Vila do Bispo schoolchildren help hedgehogs return to wild
Primary school students from Vila do Bispo released three hedgehogs back into the wild last month.
The heart-warming act was part of a partnership between the local council and wildlife rehabilitation centre RIAS which aimed to promote biodiversity and nature conservation among the municipality’s younger generations.
Several activities were held between March and June in a bid to teach local schoolchildren about the wild animals that RIAS cares for.
They learned “the characteristics of the species, their main threats and how a wild animal hospital works,” the council says in a statement. The children also made a hedgehog out of recycled materials.
