Government “wants tax inspectors to be able to carry guns”
SIC television news reports that the government has approved a draft law covering the arming of tax inspectors with guns, tasers and/ or pepper spray.
The civil servants would be armed for “actions of vigilance, criminal investigation, general checking, inspections and other sanctioned acts”, said the station, stressing the gamut of weaponry covered by the arms classes B, B1 and E.
The idea is to ensure tax inspectors’ safety.
The draft law would effectively dispense with the need for inspectors to take out gun licences, said SIC, as it would involve training them and issuing the necessary certificates.
