Government “thinking of resigning” over teachers’ multi-million euro demands
A PS Socialist source has admitted that the government is pondering resigning over the impossible demands placed on it by teachers.
It would take €630 million to ‘give back’ all the salaries and benefits ‘frozen’ over the last nine years, four months and two days – yet there has been no chink of compromise for months.
Says Rádio Renascença, all options are under discussion, but resignation is one of them.
According to the station, this tactic has been discussed “several times”, particularly as if the government concedes to teachers’ demands, it would have no choice but to do the same for nurses, firefighters, police, prison guards, court workers and so on.
The way ahead is to be discussed tomorrow (Wednesday) with various proposals from different parties on the table, says RR.
