Cinema will be highlight in Loulé’s MED Festival 2019
Cinema will be playing a bigger role than ever in the 16th MED Festival in Loulé, which will take place between June 27 and 30. The event, which was recently awarded at the Iberian Festival Awards for its principles of sustainability, will also be more environmentally-friendly.
A short-film will be screened before each of the festival’s concerts, while the debut of ‘Gabriel e a Montanha’, “one of the most important productions of Brazilian cinema in the last few years”, will happen at the town’s castle on June 30.
This year’s festival, which was presented last week at the BTL tourism fair in Lisbon, will feature 10 stages set up throughout the historic centre of Loulé. Over 80 hours of music are planned with 280 artists from 22 countries travelling to the Algarve to perform. For the first time ever, artists from Trinidad and Tobago and Haiti will be taking the stage at MED.
Several national artists have been confirmed including Gisela João, Dead Combo, Diabo na Cruz, Cais do Sodré Funk Connection and the Algarve’s very own Dino D’Santiago.
Marcelo D2 (Brazil), Marinah (Spain), Mellow Mood (Italy), Selma Uamusse (Mozambique) and the multicultural group The Turbans are among the other highlights of the musical programme.
