Who says bowling isn’t exciting?

Tuesday, January 22 dawned cloudy and cold, but the rain stayed away for us to complete the penultimate game of the Cameron Cup competition.

Balaia beat Albufeira five points to one; Valverde won two points against Floresta who won four points; whilst Alvor took four points from Pedras winning two points.

The table now changes yet again, (who says bowling can’t be dynamic and exciting?). Alvor are now at the top with 16 points, with Albufeira having slipped to second place with 15 points, and Valverde and Pedras chasing closely behind on 14 points each. Balaia have got on the board with five points.

Thursday, January 24 was the next Super 10’s games. Floresta won all eight points from Valverde; Albufeira won six points from Alvor who took two points; whilst Pedras took two points against Tavira winning six points. Balaia were the resting team this week.

The table now has both Floresta and Albufeira fighting it out at the top with 44 points each. Valverde are following closely behind on 33 points, and Alvor are holding up the table from the bottom on 19 points. Still early days for everyone, and plenty of time for things to change.

Friday, January 25 was a beautiful, warm, sunny afternoon for Albufeira Cats Fun Bowls event to celebrate Burn’s Night. England versus Scotland was the theme of the games, with many people wearing tartan or appropriate items to support who they were playing for, much to the amusement of the tourists visiting the hotel Muthu Clube Praia da Oura.

Challenges were to play two ends with only bowls in front of the ‘Jack’ counting, followed by two ends with only bowls behind the ‘Jack’ counting, and two normal ends.

This produced much hilarity and confusion for everyone, and a very competitive atmosphere. Sufficient to say, Scotland triumphed over England, and the photograph shows Rene Berbridge for England (on the left) passing the trophy to Evelyn Oliver for Scotland.

The latest results for the League games played on Saturday, January 26 will be updated next week.
