Discover the new multi-purpose venue in Parchal
Just a stone’s throw away from Lagoa, Ferragudo and Portimão and located in a somewhat unexpected location, behind the façade of a warehouse exterior in a small industrial estate, next to the Arade River, Parrot Castle is the brainchild of the same people who brought us the very popular Club Nau and Earth Café and Shop.
The concept is quite original and ingenious. Comprising several designated areas, it’s a multifunctional central events space incorporating art, dance, creativity and fitness; a design hub; climate-controlled wine cellar; a shop and market; an open-plan professional kitchen, perfect for workshops and training; a stage for live music and shows; a fully equipped gym; and, of course, a warehouse.
The industrial décor is very much a trend at the moment and makes a refreshing change to the mostly pristine or super-rustic venues around. The central space can be pretty much as small or big as the event organiser wishes, courtesy of the clever hand-built room dividers that slot into place to create a feeling of privacy, so much so that even a small group of say 20 people wouldn’t feel uncomfortable in what is actually a 500sqm venue.
Then there’s the wine shop and tasting room, which is located near the entrance. Upstairs, there’s a fully equipped classroom perfect for small, professional training sessions, yoga, tutorials and much more.
The design office and the outside courtyard make the final pieces of the puzzle.
Parrot Castle is effectively the umbrella company that is the warehouse venue. It’s essential to treat each part of the space as an individual entity and not get overwhelmed by the vast array of services they can cater for.
Within the Parrot Castle, seven subdivisions have been created as complementary services.
The Wine Castle, a wine distribution company which supplies wines to trade clients across the Algarve, and where anyone is welcome to visit the wine shop and pick up a bottle or case of something special. The list of producers is increasing, but rest assured that they are all handpicked and of excellent quality.
At the Music Castle, there will be monthly music nights, and the idea is to make this a more frequent occurrence where local bands will make guest appearances.
The Events Castle’s internal divisions make themselves very useful and help make the space exactly whatever size is required. This area has already welcomed a charity lunch, demonstrations, a fair, dance and cooking activities and a teambuilding event. Suitable for almost anything, it can host small business exhibitions, boot camps, shows, birthday parties, fairs, to name a few.
The Food Castle, with a professional open-plan kitchen and space for 12 around the central cooking station is an excellent space for cookery classes and chefs’ table events.
Similarly, the Workshop Castle is where the space really comes into its own, and so far they’ve hosted culinary, oriental dance, yoga, dressmaking, healthy baking, Salsa, Feng Shui and makeover classes, art, dance, charity and promotional events, and private wine tastings. The owners are preparing professional wine, cocktail-making and show-cooking workshops.
At the Design Castle, an in-house designer is on hand to create logos, menus or brochures for the hospitality industry along with a complementary printing service, whilst at the Works Castle, you’ll find a builder, painter, carpenter, electrician or plumber to carry out trade jobs on commercial properties.
Keep your eyes peeled on social media for the constantly updated events schedule and sign up for some fun activities in the winter.
Learn a new skill, get fit at the boot camps or enjoy the various training sessions, learn how to give yourself a five-minute makeover, bake healthy pastries, throw a party, host an event, attend a jazz night and meet some new people while you’re at it.
“The space can be used for just about anything” said the owners.
The creativity and years of experience that is working away behind the scenes are second to none, and this collaboration is sure to bring a breath of fresh air to the music, gastronomic, cultural and arts scene in the area.
