A kitchen party with a twist
On Saturday, January 12, I was fortunate enough to attend the very first kitchen party at the new multi-purpose events complex Parrot Castle in Parchal.
The guests sat around the intimate 12-seater open kitchen and began to enjoy a fabulous array of Japanese fine dining dishes that were created before our eyes by the talented Sushi Chef Arnaldo Gonçalves from Club Nau in Praia Grande.
Our taste buds were treated to one delectable dish after another throughout the evening, and each course was paired with a wine from the in-house selection of the partner business Wine Castle, which is also based within the premises.
They started the proceedings with finger food consisting of beautiful sushi-style fresh tuna and salmon and a fresh Espumante called Informal by Luís Pato, which was perfect not only in flavour but in name too as the setting is professional yet informal.
Everyone chose their seats, and this is where the space and chef really came into their own. Chef Naldo prepared and served a six-course Japanese fine dining dinner that kicked off with a delightful oriental citrus ceviche served with perfectly balanced Terroir Mineral – Casa de Cello, followed by a very pretty sashimi trilogy that was complemented with a rich Colheita Branco from Luís Pato that lent itself to both this and the next dish – absinthe and rosemary smoked seabass.
Then it was on to the meat dish. We were delighted with some melt-in-the-mouth Wagyu (straight from Japan) that was paired with Quinta da Veiga – Solo Franco and finished off with a to-die-for Matcha Ice Cream.
Parrot Castle plans on having guest chefs to hold events twice a month. This complete dining experience was very reasonably priced at €80.
