Autoeuropa car plant hammered by French yellow-vests protests
Palmela car plant Autoeuropa has had to call various unscheduled halts to production this month due to delays in the arrival of material as a result of the yellow-vests protests in France.
Weekend shifts next week and in the week preceding Christmas have been cancelled and the festive ‘holidays’ extended from December 23 to January 3.
The VW-owned factory has already suffered multiple problems with its labour-force this year.
First, it had its own protests to deal with, as workers balked at the prospect of weekend shift work. Then its exports to Germany were hit by the blockade mounted by stevedores at the port of Setúbal.
