Sushi Battle: top sushi chefs compete for champion title
Ten “sushi masters” from the Algarve have been invited to take part in the first ‘Sushi Battle’ which will take place on Thursday, November 8 at Medusis Club in Almancil.
The sushi chefs will be testing their skills against each other in a live cook-off, described by organisers as a “unique celebration of local seafood and sushi artistry with guests casting their vote to decide who will emerge victorious”.
Each contestant will prepare two dishes – “that reflect themselves, their cuisine and their restaurant” -, which will be evaluated for “taste, presentation and creativity” by both a panel of experts and the audience.
The sushi master who receives the most votes will be crowned the first Sushi Battle champion.
The 10-course sushi selection must be prepared live in under one-hour, with all ingredients sourced from the same local supermarket and within the given budget.
Guests will arrive to a welcome drink or Japanese tea and then be able to take the opportunity to engage and interact with the sushi chefs as they prepare their dishes around a poolside area.
The sushi dishes will then be served to the guests in an indoor dining area. Accompanying the sushi will be wine and dessert from the Medusis house team. As the votes are counted, guests can enjoy a drink at the bar.
Early bird tickets will be on sale for €50 until November, after which they will be sold for €60. Tickets will be available at selected outlets and at sushibattle.pt, where the bios of each of the attending sushi masters can also be found.
The opening ceremony will start at 8pm with the sushi served at 9pm.
