Lagoa moves wine show to town centre
The countdown has begun for the Lagoa Wine Show, which for the first time will be held in summertime (June 29 to July 1) and in the centre of town.
The local council announced in February that it was moving the event from the Centro de Congressos do Arade in Parchal to Rua Coronel Figueiredo (the “red street”) in an attempt to promote local businesses and show that the centre of town can be used as a venue for all kinds of events.
The Lagoa Wine Show is one of the Algarve’s most important wine-related events and will feature wines from all over the region, as well as a variety of delicious foods including tapas, cheeses, smoked produce and traditional sweets.
There will also be a wide musical programme promoting Portugal’s Fado music genre with several singers performing in the centre of town.
A show entitled ‘The Best of Fado’ will be held between 7pm and 10pm near the CTT post office in 30-minute slots, showcasing some of the best tunes by some of the country’s best Fado singers including Amália Rodrigues, Dulce Pontes, Mariza, Ana Moura, Carlos do Carmo and Camané.
The Lagoa Wine Show will also see two singers and two musicians serenading diners at local restaurants or at residents’ windows during the course of the event.
Finally, there will be daily showcooking sessions at the market between 9.30pm and 10.30pm led by chef Telmo Jacinto.
The event will run from 7pm to midnight. Admission will be free although the purchase of a glass to taste the wines will cost €3.
