Fourteen British people injured, three seriously, in A22 crash involving bus and truck
Fourteen Britisg people including a nine-year-old child were injured, three of them seriously, in an accident involving a bus and a concrete mixer truck on the A22 motorway in the Algarve this morning (May 16).
The bus driver, a Portuguese man, was also badly hurt in the crash.
TV footage shows that the bus seemingly crashed into the back of the truck.
Four INEM emergency vehicles as well as a life-support ambulance were at the site at the time of writing.
According to Faro GNR lieutenant Afonso, the bus belongs to a Spanish company that was taking the passengers from Praia da Rocha in Portimão to Faro Airport.
The accident happened just before 8am near the Areeiro tunnel in the borough of Loulé. Traffic was cut off on the Loulé-Faro stretch of the motorway.
The causes of the accident are still being investigated but GNR police believe one of the drivers may have been “blinded by the sun.”
“But only the investigation will determine the cause,” he added.
