Golden Visa couple on run from Chinese justice arrested in Lisbon
Two Chinese awarded “golden visas” before international arrest warrants for them had been posted on Interpol have finally been arrested in Lisbon, where both have been buying and selling property for the last four years.
The duo faces charges of “economic fraud” in China to the tune of €16 million, say reports.
The man has been released on bail while his partner has been remanded in custody until judges decide on China’s request for extradition.
The couple’s alleged crimes date back to 2013.
They were both granted ‘golden visas’ in 2014, reports Rádio Renascença, after buying a property in Oeiras (Lisbon) for the stipulated €500,000 required for ‘golden residency applications’.
The 47-year-old man is now bound to report regularly to police, while his wife is being held in Tires jail.
