Olhanense sunk in the Azores

Three second-half goals by Santa Clara saw the islanders complete the double over basement team Olhanense. In blustery conditions, it was the visitors who nearly took the lead after 10 minutes when Ademola fired just wide. Santa Clara had a great opportunity midway through the half but Ruben Saldanha blasted his effort high and wide.

From Osama Rashid’s corner, Pacheco saw his header rebound off the upright but at the interval it remained all square. A 17-minute spell of pressure shortly after the break resulted in a brace of goals for Clemente either side of a penalty slotted home by Osama Rashid.

On Sunday, it will be top versus bottom as Olhanense travel down the coast to play Portimonense when the home side will be hoping to secure the title with a comprehensive victory.

SC Olhanense will end their woeful season on Sunday, May 21 when they entertain Penafiel at the José Arcanjo Stadium, Olhão. Kick-off 4pm.
