2016 can be a good year for forest fires, says Secretary of State

Portugal’s Secretary of State for Internal Administration has said “2016 is well placed to be a good year in terms of forest fires”, though the Algarve will require “extra attention”.

Presenting the region’s new DECIF (special fire fighting unit) in Faro this week, Jorge Gomes explained that the Algarve is a “complex region” as it is usually plagued by fires during the busy summer season, which is why it will need extra caution.
