A law punishing graffiti artists with fines between €100 and €25,000 has been approved by the Portuguese government. The new legislation also includes illegal fixtures or any other kind of unauthorised alteration to property in the public domain. However, the Minister of Internal Administration, Miguel Macedo, stressed that the government will not apply the legal ban to the art that is performed in public spaces, which in many cases is granted specifically to the artists.
