Following the approval of the new uniform regulation for the GNR police authority in May, only the new military berets have arrived in the Algarve.

The main changes in the new uniform are the beret, which replaces the garrison cap, a polo to replace the shirt (short-sleeved in the summer and long-sleeved in the winter) with a black tshirt worn underneath, and combat-style trousers with pockets.

With the new uniform expected to arrive in time for the summer season, only the beret has arrived, with the region’s GNR wearing the new hat since June 21.

One criticism about the military beret is the fact that it provides no protection against the rain, after the Professional Guard Association (APG) proposed the introduction of a peaked cap.
