Two young people – a man and a woman – have been arrested
A 19-year-old Portuguese girl was stabbed to death in the early hours of this morning in the Areias de São João bar district of Albufeira.
The unnamed victim died from stab wounds to her chest and neck, say reports.
A Portuguese man and a woman have been arrested.
It is understood that the duo “fled” after allegedly attacking the girl in a bar on the popular Avenida Sá Carneiro. Other reports suggest the location was Rua da Oura.
“The knife was thrown onto a roof”, write local reports today. “It was recovered by the GNR”.
GNR agents were also responsible for arresting the couple.
The death of the victim was declared at the scene.
The alert went out at 6.30am.
Emergency responders – local firefighters and an INEM medical team – battled to resuscitate the young woman, “but she did not resist her injuries and ended up dying”, says Algarve Postal.
PJ police are investigating. The incident happened in the context of “disturbances” involving a group of young adults, all believed to be under the age of 20.
