Cláudio Mota, a 19-year-old footballer who played for Alentejo club Futebol Clube Castrense, was killed on Monday night in a “brutal” car crash between Castro Verde and the small village of Santa Bárbara de Pedrões.
Police believe a flat tyre may have caused Mota’s car to skid and crash, says tabloid newspaper Correio da Manhã.
It adds that the young man used the EN2 road often to travel from his home to football practice.
