A major drug bust by GNR police saw officers confiscating 1,840 kilos of hashish from a 7.7 metre-long boat off the Castro Marim coast near Guadiana river on Tuesday, November 18. The boat was in the charge of two Spanish men who were arrested after attempting to evade capture.
Faro’s GNR command was tipped off by Spanish Guardia Civil counterparts, who warned of a “suspicious boat” approaching the Guadiana River.
GNR agents boarded the boat and found it to be carrying almost two tons of hashish, worth€60,000 on the open market.
They claim the bust has effectively stripped Europe’s drug world of 3,680 million doses of hashish.
The two men taken into custody now face trial.
