Viseu has become Portugal’s unofficial tractor blackspot this week, with 16 accidents registered this year and five deaths. Ana Maria Silva, 52, was the latest fatality – a woman who is reported to have earned her living driving her tractor, which she handled “with great care”. Tragically, for reasons to be investigated, Silva drove off the road in S. Joaninho, near Armamar on Monday morning, careering headlong into a ravine.
