15-year-old boy: latest youngster to be mowed down by train

A 15-year-old boy on his way to school in Maceda, Ovar, was killed today as he crossed railway lines to catch his train.

Everything indicates that the tragedy was another case of a teenager “not realising” that a train was coming in the opposite direction.

This happened last year in Portimão (click here) and only weeks ago in Montemor-o-Novo (click here).

The youngster’s traumatised family rushed to the scene “but there was nothing to be done”, said TVI24.

Train services were delayed for an hour, with warnings reiterated by emergency services that people have to be extra vigilant when crossing railtracks.
