15% of teachers ‘failed’ tests

After all the controversy, critics are saying Education Minister Nuno Crato was quite right to insist on the teachers’ tests that went ahead, with difficulty, on two trouble-torn occasions in December and July this year. Almost 15% of teachers who grudgingly took the test ‘failed’, says a government communiqué, and as a result will not qualify for state teaching vacancies this year. A total of 10,220 teachers took the test, of which 8,747 passed.
