14-year-old identified as ‘author’ of Vila Pouca de Aguiar fire

Set light to pile of wood at 1am last Friday

A 14-year-old boy has been identified as the author of a blaze that began in Vila Pouca de Aguiar in the very early hours of last Friday morning – and is still causing concerns today.

According to PJ judicial police, the boy set light to a wood pile at his grandparents’ property, “for futile motives”.

The fire went on to threaten neighbouring homes and properties, and destroy pine trees of ‘elevated value’.

Vila Pouca de Aguiar has been identified today as one of the locations of fires in the northern region causing the most concerns.

The boy, who has given a full statement to police, has been prohibited from spending time on his grandparents’ property or even visiting their house.

For now, this is where the story ends: the teen is too young to be charged with a crime.

Whether or not a demand for financial compensation from his parents/ wider family could come, has not been explained.
