12-year-old ‘saved’ from Azores paedophile recovers in hospital

A community in Ponta Delgada, Azores, is in shock this week after a 12-year-old was found bound, gagged and showing terrible signs of having been attacked in the home of a 44-year-old butcher. According to news reports, the child’s clinical situation is stable “but she may suffer consequences of the violence” meted out on her. Her aggressor remains in police custody, facing charges of kidnap, rape and attempted murder.

Indeed, the man narrowly avoided a public lynching when he turned up in court to be remanded in custody.

News reports explain how close the child got to not being recovered.

Her father had apparently knocked on the attacker’s door – not realising the man held his daughter.

The man tried to confuse the father, saying he had seen the child get into a grey car.

But the girl’s cries for help were heard by one of her friends, who informed police called to the scene.

The police then saw the man was coming out of his house with a mop and bucket in hand – and realised what he was up to.

The house inside was marked by a blood trail – and the child was found under the man’s bed.

News reports suggest she was so traumatised, she could not even talk.
