1,146 deaths “above expected levels” in December

INSA, the Dr Ricardo Jorge institute of public health, has identified an excess mortality in Portugal between November 28 and December 18, 2022, of 1,146 deaths “above expected levels” – the equivalent of an increase of 16%, writes Expresso. Elsewhere, television reports have suggested the increased deaths “could have resulted from cases of flu“. SIC television news refers to the ‘study’ being undertaken into the phenomenon of excess deaths that have hit Portugal since 2020/ 2021, suggesting it will be ready “by the end of the year”.
