Corrida São Silvestre Quarteira

10th edition of popular São Silvestre Race held in Quarteira

Over 1000 athletes are expected to race along the Passeio das Dunas on December 28.

The 10th edition of Quarteira’s famous São Silvestre race will take place on December 28 at 20:30 on the Passeio das Dunas.

The initiative was created in 2011 by the Quarteira Night Runners, an informal running and walking group.

The first editions counted 50 participants, but in recent years, more than 1000 athletes have been running through Quarteira’s avenues to burn off the Christmas calories.

The popular race features a five and ten-kilometre route, which athletes can run or walk. Anyone from 0 to 100 can sign up, and registration is free.

At the end of the race, athletes will be greeted with a slice of traditional bolo-rei and hot tea.

The event is organised by the Quarteira Night Runners, Free Challenge and the Quarteira Parish Council with the support of the Loulé City Council and the Algarve Athletics Association.
