10,000 police bodycams to be acquired, in stages, till 2026

The move towards equipping Portuguese police with bodycams (portable cameras) is slowly inching forwards with the government’s ‘programme of acquisition’ having been presented to parliament yesterday. These bodycams will represent an investment of €5 million. But before they are purchased (using funds available through the State Budget), two public tenders have to go out (financed by RRP funding from Brussels). The decree law regulating the use of bodycams by police was published in government gazette Diário da República in January.
