From Praia da Luz to London on foot, Matthew Loddy has now completed his 100 marathons in 100 days challenge, finishing a journey of 2,600 miles on April 22 when he crossed the finish line.
The 46 year old set off from Praia da Luz on January 14 and has since run through Spain, France and even across the channel on a treadmill set up for him on the ferry.
Matthew’s final, 100th marathon, consisting of 26.2 miles, was completed in his personal record timing of 3 hours, 9 minutes and 33 seconds.
He made the decision to take on the journey following the loss of his friend Phil Latham, who passed away to a rare stomach cancer at age 36 in 2010, whom he had shared fond memories with in the Algarve.
Matthew’s goal is to raise over £100,000 for The Hospice of St Francis in Northchurch that cared for his friend, Phil, and the Teenage Cancer Trust.
Donations are still being received and a total amount is yet to be announced.
